About our Website
Well the baggage car is loaded, and we are ready to roll. Welcome to the Magnolia Historical Society’s website. We are located in Southern New Jersey between the towns of Barrington and Somerdale. “One square mile of friendliness” that’s our motto. The idea for visual programming for the Society came on the morning of April 17, 1999 in a speech given by Mr. James Hannold, the driving force behind the station. He said and I quote, “Hopefully we’re gonna install audio and visual programming inside of the station to showcase the town’s history.” Twelve years later, technology caught up to us and now Mr. Hannold was either a prophet or just plain lucky.
This intro to the web site is usually found in the “From the ticket Window” in our Newsletter. It is a forum in which the Society’s President keeps members informed on business issues and feedback from members. Over the last four months, plans have been put into place for an upcoming membership drive. We hope our website will be a big help to attract the young and young at heart. You can help, come out and join in. Even if you are from Magnolia, Texas to Magnolia, Washington, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, we are as close as your keyboard. Some of our members now live that far away. Now you have a way to stay close to your hometown.
This would not have been possible without the help of three new members; Jeffrey Brownlow (Webmaster), Michael Cartwright (Photo & Audio Director), and Jason Sawyer (Chairperson of the Communication and Technical Committee aka CTC). This committee handles the Newsletter, all publicity, online media, and audio sound at outside events. I hope you will use our website informative and if you have any questions you can reach us via our website contact page.
Thank you,
Mert Gardner, President
